- Albatros Media Player
-
- written by norbert heller (email: heller1@ibm.net)
-
- The purpose was to have a single player for all file formats instead of
- having a player for every file format as supplied in OS/2
-
- Now there is a Media Player which should play the following file formats:
-
- - MODule Formats (those "Amiga Thingies") - description see below
- - AVI (both OS/2 and Windows (with Andreas Portele's WINAVI codecs))
- - MPEG 1 (just the movies, no sound)
- - FLC / FLI |
- - WAV |
- - VOC | we already know that from os/2
- - MID |
-
- FIRST DO THIS:
- Of course you need the OS/2 MMPM/2 installed !
-
- IF YOU WANT TO USE THE DART MODE to play mod files :
-
- There are two files needed to run this player which can be found on DEVCON 8
-
- Currently the only known source is the DevCons CD's. The DLL's are located on disk 3, in
- the directory
-
- \toolkits\warptlkt\toolkit\beta\samples\entoolkt\audio\daudio\AMPMXMCD.DLL
- \toolkits\warptlkt\toolkit\beta\samples\entoolkt\audio\daudio\AUDIOSH.DLL
-
- These dlls must be used to replace the existing mmpm dlls, see the readme
- file in that directory for more information.
-
- just copy these two files into your
-
- /mmos2/dll
-
- directory (make a backup of your old files first). You do not have to reboot!
-
- Now you are ready to play files ...
-
-
- HOW TO PLAY A FILE :
- Simply open your drives object, find a MOD file (any of the below formats), then
- drag&drop it onto the main display (the black square)
-
- The rest is pretty simple :
- - select sample rate from the options first, then volume (the buttons next to "mute") then press play
-
- DESCRIPTION OF THE MODULE FORMATS :
- A Module, in this sense, is a music file format that stores both digital
- instruments and note information. Unlike MIDI files which are soly note
- information and WAV files which are a single digital instrument. Modules
- use a technique known as Wave Table Synthesis or Digital Mixing for play
- back. A more advanced, but similar system is used in most of today's
- synthesisers.
-
- The result is a reproduction identical to what the original author intended
- and unlike a digitial recording the size does not grow very large for
- long songs. A 30 minute song could easily be a mear 300k. Almost all
- of the space in a module file is used by the instruments.
-
- SUPPORTED MOD FORMATS :
- * 4 Channel, 15 Samples NoiseTracker
- * 4 Channel, 15 Samples NoiseTracker, ProTracker, SoundTracker etc.
- * XM Modules from Fasttracker 4,6,8,16 and 32 Channel FastTracker
