  5. The purpose was to have a single player for all file formats instead of 
  6. having a player for every file format as supplied in OS/2 
  7.  
  8. Now there is a Media Player which should play the following file formats:
  9.  
  10. - MODule Formats (those "Amiga Thingies") - description see below
  11. - AVI (both OS/2 and Windows (with Andreas Portele's WINAVI codecs))
  12. - MPEG 1 (just the movies, no sound)
  13. - FLC / FLI     |
  14. - WAV           |
  15. - VOC           | we already know that from os/2 
  16. - MID           |

  18. FIRST DO THIS: 
  19.     Of course you need the OS/2 MMPM/2 installed !    
  20.  
  21. IF YOU WANT TO USE THE DART MODE to play mod files :
  22.  
  23.     There are two files needed to run this player which can be found on DEVCON 8
  24.  
  25.     Currently the only known source is the DevCons CD's.  The DLL's are located on disk 3, in
  26.     the directory
  27.  
  28.     \toolkits\warptlkt\toolkit\beta\samples\entoolkt\audio\daudio\AMPMXMCD.DLL
  29.     \toolkits\warptlkt\toolkit\beta\samples\entoolkt\audio\daudio\AUDIOSH.DLL

  31.     These dlls must be used to replace the existing mmpm dlls, see the readme
  32.     file in that directory for more information.

  36.         /mmos2/dll

  38.     directory (make a backup of your old files first). You do not have to reboot!

  40.     Now you are ready to play files ...

  43. HOW TO PLAY A FILE : 
  44.     Simply open your drives object, find a MOD file (any of the below formats), then 
  45.     drag&drop it onto the main display (the black square)   
  46.  
  47.     The rest is pretty simple : 
  48.         - select sample rate from the options first, then volume (the buttons next to "mute") then press play 
  49.  
  50. DESCRIPTION OF THE MODULE FORMATS : 
  51.    A Module, in this sense, is a music file format that stores both digital
  52.    instruments and note information. Unlike MIDI files which are soly note
  53.    information and WAV files which are a single digital instrument. Modules
  54.    use a technique known as Wave Table Synthesis or Digital Mixing for play
  55.    back. A more advanced, but similar system is used in most of today's
  56.    synthesisers.

  58.    The result is a reproduction identical to what the original author intended
  59.    and unlike a digitial recording the size does not grow very large for
  60.    long songs. A 30 minute song could easily be a mear 300k. Almost all
  61.    of the space in a module file is used by the instruments.

  68.   * S3M Modules from Scream Tracker 3.x
  69.   * MTM Modules from MultiTracker 1.x
